A great adapter that seems to eliminate the Achilles' heel of monitors and TVs that don't have proper outputs. I'm put off by those optical audio cables that occasionally work and it performs perfectly. Many Thanks.

This solved the problem for me of connecting the streamer to a computer monitor via HDMI but disconnecting the audio to speakers. Went like clockwork. Plug everything in, then turn it on. I'm using analog cables, not optical, so I can't speak on this use case, but to me there's no latency or audio latency at all.

Connected to a 4K Ultra UHD Fire TV Stick and an Epson 4050 Pro projector that has no audio output. I then connected the optical out to my optical in on my old JVC receiver. This unit should be basic except for some reason there are three setting switches, 5.1, 2ch and pass. For a simple person like me, even after trying to figure out what the three parameters mean, it was still too difficult to just get the headphones to work. We need to connect and listen. I have already purchased 2 of these units to confirm the problem but ultimately never managed to get them into an environment where they are used every day. muted the HDMI signal from the Apple TV and instead of working it just cut off the audio on the left hand side, put 12v into the HDMI cable and shorted out the system which in turn resulted in nothing coming on displayed on the TV or projector (I've tried both).
