NANIWA Whetstone Flattening Tool QA 0160 for Sharpening Review

I used it to straighten a 50 year old Japanese stone. It had about 0.25 inches of flex down the middle. took about 3 hours but the results made me smile. Highly recommended.

I almost hate this leveling stone but it got 2 stars because the seller delivered it on time. However, due to its use, it left ridges on my stones no matter how hard I tried to clean its edges. He was also VERY slow to shave the stones down to size. 5 minutes of rubbing and it didn't do much. I would NOT recommend this leveler unless you plan to use it on the coarsest whetstones like 800s and you have plenty of time.

I bought this stone at a modest price to use with some inexpensive waterstones and when I first used it and then went with a flattened stone I was amazed at the improvement in performance. The ridge jumped, and in maybe a third of the time I normally spend I've had the benefit of doing push cuts in magazine paper and doing all the other tricks a good edge can do.
