There are two connection types, barrel and MC4, and there is no way to remove the unused one by leaving the connector open. It turned out that there were two problems; the power supply battery was completely discharged and the solar panel was not in a sunny location. So far I'm impressed with the build quality and they seem to be holding up well to the stress of constant travel. When I took the panel out of the box I was impressed with the build quality. Well anodized frame, comfortable stand and high quality anti-reflective glass. The presence of both a coaxial barrel connector and standard MC4 connectors makes the connection very flexible.
