Really mysterious router failures

For several years I have had a Range Max 900 and another older Netgear router making up my home WiFi network (both purchased through Revain). The wi-fi network went down last week and after all the usual steps we called Time Warner and they diagnosed the problem with the router, not the modem. We were given a Netgear service phone number but before I called the network recovered itself! It worked for a while, then disappeared again. I did all the usual stuff and restored it but it failed againโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Nothing

YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR PRODUCT SUPPORT IN 90 DAYS

This router has worked fine for 10 months. The connection is then continuously interrupted every five minutes. No matter what I did - buffering, flushing, etc. - nothing fixed this router that was shutting down frustratingly every five minutes. Fix my router! At first they tried to sell me a two year contract for almost $200 until I asked if there was a one year contract. Since then I've checked out the site and they have a six month contract for only $80 which of course I was never offeredโ€ฆ

  • New to my collection

  • Some cons

EDIT #3: 2018 is upon us and I'm still worried about the extra money and the time and effort I wasted hoping I could have a generic USB setup on my network. None of the three devices I bought worked consistently, despite enough hours of troubleshooting with Netgear to I think I once earned for free. WiFi is included. Unstable at best, randomly disconnects and even when plugged in, it's too slow for normal use. I have a Mac with 16GB of RAM and the WiFi is exactly 12ft directly above my head soโ€ฆ

Internet went down and required a restart Every day

IF this router works, it's fast. However, if you don't have time to restart it multiple times a day and spend hours on a Netgear-enabled phone, buy something else. I spent hours on the phone with Netgear support, usually several times a week. Finally, they upgraded me to Service Level 2, which apparently means you don't have to wait that long on the phone before speaking to anyone, but still plan on spending at least 30 minutes per call with technical experts. At first they made all sorts ofโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Negative impression

I bought this to replace my slick wall router running on an old 2.4GHz Pentium computer. I have Netgear WND350 hotspots at home, so while I don't need the Wi-Fi aspect, I figured it couldn't hurt. Pros First: Network Genie for people who don't know anything about routers. The advanced configurations are great because it's the first router I've seen in the time that allows port forwarding to redirect to another port I need and smoothwall offers. Cons: It doesn't work out of the box. It connectsโ€ฆ
