A must have for your D70

After reading the reviews I bought the 800 instead of the 600. After reading the manual I was going to return it (too complicated) but decided not to try anyway. Don't be put off by the leadership and all that this outbreak can do. Just pop it on your camera and in about 5 minutes you'll be up and running with the basics, and the basics are amazing: shooting with perfect exposure and colors to match. Direct, reflected, scattered, it doesn't matter. As said, this model comes with a diffuser…

Great flash for photographers of all skill levels

This product was purchased for my wife who is a semi-professional photographer. She takes photos indoors and outdoors and is glad she has this flash. It's powerful enough to shine far (100 feet) indoors and doesn't drain batteries as quickly as one might expect. We use this flash with a Nikon D300 and we have a battery pack for longer flash cycle times - I would recommend a battery pack if you are using it for faster shots. I'm thinking of getting two more for studio shots as it can work in…

  • An absolute legend

  • Useless features

I toasted my SB900. Yes, I disabled the overheat feature, but only because I had to take over 20-30 pictures before waiting 20 minutes for it to cool down. ha ha. The non-Nikon repair cost was $145 plus shipping with a 90 day guarantee. Or get an old used SB800 flash, which is a fully functional flash that's smaller, lighter, and has almost the same performance as a $200 900/910. (Think I got a good deal)? Yes, it is not a pipe dream! And to be perfectly honest, I prefer better handling on the…

Great flash at a great price

This flash is the most complete flash I have ever owned for a camera. The powerful output offers enough light for most enthusiasts and works great in combination with other flashes, even if they are not Nikon CLS compatible. I'm syncing a 400WS Studio All-in-One with an SB-800 because my camera doesn't have a PC sync port and it works fine, although I want the All-in-One to work. In true NIkon fashion, this flash does it all for you or lets you control everything manually up to a power of…

Great flash. but in Flashes

I will not repeat what has already been said in many other reviews, except that the flash is great. its very powerful, great built-in features, its slave ability and yes you will probably want to read the manual if you are not familiar with how to use strong flash on skin tones. I usually use this flash with reflection when I'm in doors. It creates great natural light when the gift is not available. HOWEVER, I've used the 5th battery more than once for faster charge times at busy events (e.g…

First impressions: camera and photos

I recently switched to a Nikon D200 with a Nikor 18-200 zoom and bought an SB800 flash to match the camera. As many have written in the D200 reviews, this is a great camera. It's amazing how fantastically the flash complements the D200. I've just started harnessing the power of this lightning bolt, but so far it's invincible. Camera, lens and flash work together like a fantastic system. The exposure metering system is amazing. I used it in full program mode and let the system think. The results

Buy this kit! for Flashes

If you want to buy the SB-800 flash (overkill for most amateurs and even for some pros, but with excellent performance), buy this complete set. I could not find the items included in this set for less than $100 anywhere else. The mount adds an element of versatility and creativity that I never thought was possible with a flash. I've been led to believe that if you rely on the flash for a good shot, you'll be disappointed. I'm sorry grandpa, but that's no longer the case. The mount with the…

Preview: Almost all functions possible

Nikon developed this device to take advantage of their latest DSLRs while being compatible with their older F-series cameras. The SB-800 is more expensive than the SB -600, but gives more control and more light. You may find that more light is crucial when you want to use bounce flash to soften shadows. I would give the SB-800 five stars if the manual was a bit better. Nikon has obviously put a lot of effort into providing good documentation and making the user interface as intuitive as…
