Rusty Blades: Power & Hand Tools

The blades I have received have some of the coating peeled off and some of the blades are rusty, this is a very bad old batch of blades. 2 stars for some non rusty blades --- 12/18/2015 received a replacement, still some rust on the blades but less of it so they really like to supply rusty blades, wish I had gotten a new stock instead of the old stock.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Available in white only

Too thick for Olfa pens?

I have Olfa SVR-1 and SVR-2 9mm grips. Interestingly, these blades are too thick to work in their own hands! They don't go through the top of the handles. Olfa silver blades are thinner and work well. Since it's the same brand, they really should look at this compatibility issue or fix it in the SVR-3 theme!

Pros
  • This is fantastic
Cons
  • Fits

The sharpest

For almost 10 years I have only used OLFA snap blades with a black blade. I'm an industrial designer prototyping a variety of clothing and bags as well as more traditional items like wearables and 3D printed parts. Always the sharpest blades for everything from thin branches to plastic sheeting. They become dull quickly, so they often break.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • The cord is shorter than the others

Great knife for leather work.

I will use it for cutting leather. After a few test cuts, I can say I've noticed less blade drag, less blade deflection, and a cleaner cut. I have tested on fine sheepskins and vegetable tanned leather in various weights from 3-4 oz to 9-10 oz. These blades are significantly better than the standard sets I've used. I'll update later if the blades don't hold an edge or if the usability drops off too quickly.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Sound! You are hot!

Those are blades! You are hot! They stay sharp for a long time! What more do you want *! *Maybe they are not glued together enough in a container that one has to use other tools to separate them. Otherwise perfect! I use them in my DEWALT DWHT10037 9mm Single Edge Breaker Knife and they work great! Note: The container does NOT contain a breakaway container. Luckily I had an old one on hand that I still use today.

Pros
  • One-year trial
Cons
  • Good, but not great

Very sharp and lasts much longer!

After many experiences with my new OLFA 1075449 XA-1 I am convinced of this high quality blade. I usually have to replace those regular cheap blades after less than 10 uses. It's been 2 months and the blade hasn't changed. It stays sharp! Sharp enough to be used on hard plastic (standard plastic wrap commonly used for most products). It cuts so easily and evenly. Don't think about getting these scissors like a cutter anymore. With 50 of these high quality blades it will take me a long time toโ€ฆ

Incredibly sharp and durable, far better than stainless steel

I can't speak for the AB carbon steel blades, only the stainless steel blades that come with SVR knives. I never liked the idea of a stainless steel blade. If you find yourself in a damp or humid environment, I think the choice is for you. But if that's not really a problem, then stainless steel is just soft and not that good with an edge. The aforementioned stainless steel blades were just that. Not particularly impressive. However, these ABB blades are impressive. Sharp and strong enough toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Damaged

It's as spicy as they say.

I use Olfa utility knives all over our "gentleman's farm"; at the opening of the post office, in the kitchen, in the workshops (there are three of them) and in my handover area. I rate the knife itself as a 5-star tool, but I had to keep replacing standard blades, which I felt was too quick. These blades are sharper right off the bat and seem to hold their sharpness much longer (cutting 2" braided core rubber tubing will still dull them fairly quickly) and I'm a convert. A bit pricey, but as Iโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Heavy duty finish
Cons
  • I have no complaints about it, everything is fine

However, be aware that the blades can easily become dull and brittle.

I work in a factory that uses these 9mm knives for deburring injection molded car parts. The added sharpness of these blades makes it easy to trim away excess plastic, but be aware that the blades dull fairly easily and in my experience tend to be brittle. I have found that the super sharp black blades break more easily if not cut with a straight sharp edge. For example, if you have to rake the black blades to the side in a tight spot, they will break. Other than that, it's an excellent bladeโ€ฆ
