Great product from the Olympus range

I have used an Olympus DM-520 before and whilst I miss the looks of the old model it makes up for it in features, size and new charger. Functions such as USB connection. Whether you want to store some MP3 music ringtones on a secondary device or witness (with full disclosure) read/file a legal document, this product is for you. Olympus DM-720Olympus quality, technologically/reliable ahead of Sony and no I don't work for Olympus :)

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Protection

This is the best digital voice recorder I have ever owned.

I have bought several Olympus digital voice recorders in the past, my DS-50 still works after many drops on the tile floor and even in a bucket of water. However, this model is the best I've had to date and I've already stripped it of its cores twice and it's still ticking. This voice recorder is really easy to use, it has voice prompts and I love the partial delete feature for editing my voice presentations. I did not receive anything for this review; I am just a happy Olympus customer and…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

This recorder was recommended to me, but initially I didn't want to spend that much on a recorder. After spending 1/3 the list price on a Sony that did almost everything I needed I figured I was ready to go. Now I'm pretty sure if I used Sony for what people use them for 99% of the time (lecturing, taking notes, spying on ex-boyfriends, just joking about the latter lol) I'd be very happy with it. . But not shooting in a quiet environment made the difference much clearer, as did the tone. I've…

Recommended for transcription with Dragon Dictate!

Olympus makes many recorders with a USB port for transcription. Using one of the Dragon apps (depending on whether you have a Mac or a PC) you can drag and drop the file into the window where it will be decrypted, albeit with major typos. Punctuation marks should also be dictated. This particular model has 3 mic heads instead of just one, which should improve performance in group settings. For simple dictation, I found the results nearly identical to a previous Olympus model that cost about $20

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are bugs

Loading can be an issue.

I own a DM-620 and love it. But I left it out of state and needed another recorder ASAP. Spending $140 didn't make me happy, but I'm an Olympus fan, so I did it. Retractable USB. Seriously, what are people thinking? This may be connected to my laptop, but to a PC? no Will I crawl behind my tower? Well, actually I didn't have to and wouldn't have fit into the space provided for the plugs. I have USB ports on the front but they are recessed for cables. I could not download the recorder to my…

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Something else

I bought an Olympus DM-720 to replace my old Olympus WS-802 which is no longer available. I first bought the WS-853 but returned it because it didn't have a screen backlight, an important feature. I then bought the more expensive Olympus DM-720, which has 4GB of internal storage and uses a single AAA battery - just like my old WS-802 - and has the requisite backlit screen. The DM-720 is worth its higher price because it has some very useful new features: two programmable function buttons, voice

It just keeps getting better

This is the fourth Olympus digital voice recorder I've bought and it just keeps getting better. I still have and use an older DM 520 but wanted a DM 720 as a backup. After using the DM 720, the older one became the backup. The new DM 720 is lighter than its predecessor, the DM 520; It has a simpler and more efficient design, is easier and more convenient to use, and uses only one AAA battery instead of two. My guess is that it only requires one battery instead of two due to device technology…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Not as good as it says

After 10 years, I have chosen Olympus again.

I bought the Olympus DM-720 because it has a few key features that my 10 year old DS-30 was missing. Things like an expandable SD card slot and an integrated USB port for connecting/charging from a computer. Sound Quality: Very decent for the price. At some of the most sensitive microphone recording levels, I can hear a slight "hiss" in the background, but the voice and audio recording is still clear and intelligible. This is NOT a device to match the audio fidelity of a $300+ professional…
