KEEP BREAKING! - Biking

I cycle a lot as a student and use it as my primary mode of transport. I have to replace this clip every 2-3 months as it keeps breaking and I try my best to be careful when inserting and removing my lock. At this rate I'll be spending about $70 a year just to put my lock on my bike. I'll look for an alternative option because it doesn't cost $

Always breaks. As stated in the review

I bought the onguard that came with the mount at my local bike shop. After about 2.5 years the plastic lock of the U-lock broke. It's reasonable for things to break down after a few years of use. However, after purchasing a replacement for the Revain, the replacement mount broke after just six months. I was very surprised at how quickly this thing broke this time. Now I'm not sure if I should replace it again or switch to another brand.

Lately I haven't had the time or energy to look for the best option.

Unfortunately this bracket is very handy to carry the Onguard lock. Unfortunately, because the bracket is of such absolute S*** quality that it falls apart every 6 months or less (rather less frequently). Lately I haven't had the time or energy to look for a better option, so I've kept spending $13. If you have a better way of carrying a lock, RUN! (But first tell me which option is better).

The replacement product works as expected.

This is a great OnGuard Pitbull bike lock holder until it wears out. This allows you to attach the lock to the frame and go, which I love. The only problem is that over time the plastic wears out, usually two or three years, and it becomes more difficult for the spring to attach the lock to the frame and the screw holding the lock tightens after a few years loosening begins cycling, making this replacement product necessary. That's why I bought it and it was my second time getting a…

Not the best design for sport

The one that came with the lock was broken. The small piece of plastic holding the lock is cracked and broken off. I bought another one. It was like this for about 2 months before it broke. Lightning doesn't often strike the same spot twice, so I have to report that either the design is flawed or the materials are cheap. Or both. For all that, the design of this mount is just plain bad. That really needs to be reconsidered. The yellow side of the clip is spring loaded and the lock is very…

Works fine until it breaks.

This is identical to the mounting bracket that came with my onGuard lock; Works just as well, but breaks just as easily. My original mount broke the part that clamps on the other side of the bike tube, leaving the mount just loose and able to slide off under the weight of the lock. The replacement shackle worked fine for a while, but then the corner of the black plastic where the yellow clip holds the padlock broke off, so the padlock could wobble in the shackle and even fall out if you hit a…

Ineffective and potentially dangerous

Requires constant tightening and broke after a month. I blame the terrible state of my city's streets and a major flaw in product design. A small plastic clip combined with severe road vibration will always have a hard time holding a 5-7 pound metal lock. I'm sure I'm diagnosing this as a design flaw, not a failed production run. I have purchased 3 of these items from different locations over the course of 2 years. The part that always fails is the little plastic lever that sits directly…

Best bike mount I've seen (which isn't saying much)

The Onguard clamp mount is the best bike mount I've ever used. It holds the lock securely in place, the lock is easy to open and tighten, and unlike the kryptonite lock I don't tap my knuckles every time I take the lock out of the lock. Reasons: 1) Despite the claim, not all Onguard U-locks work equally well. I found it only works great with the Pitbull Mini DT. Other Onguard U-locks I've had have slightly narrower hardware around the shackle. This causes the lock in the bracket to rattle a lot

If you drive regularly, don't waste your time and money.

They will block your bike for a while. The clamping mechanism makes it one of the easiest bindings in terms of attaching and detaching the lock to the bike. As long as it doesn't break, it's fun to use. My first one (which came with the bike) broke on the part that attaches it to the bike frame. It was visibly damaged and a little wobbly, but I was actually able to use it half broken and paired with a leg strap for months before it fell apart completely. I ended up buying another one to…
