Excellent quality: Headsets

Excellent quality. I used this in the restoration of my 86 GT Performer. I turned one down to fit the head tube and used a 1.125 fork to upgrade the bike. It didn't have many original parts so I decided to bring it back to the current design to make it easier to find parts for it.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Update available

Fits great and feels very smooth

I've never installed a headset before, made my own improvised installer (PVC pipe, wooden board and rubber mallet) and I was able to install it fairly quickly without damaging it . The fit was great and now it's really smooth. This headset also makes a good impression, better than the old one it replaced.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Threadless to Threadless Conversion

Conversion of my old mountain bike from threaded headset and fork to threadless. This block has sealed bearings and comes with a document showing the correct order of parts. That and a few YouTube videos and it was easy. The one I received was completely black, the text was not white like the product photos.

Pros
  • Hands Free Operation
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

It doesn't get any better.

Bought this for sealed bearings and you can see the difference. Initially had an open storage system. I wanted to upgrade my fork, so I decided to upgrade my headset as well. It is immediately noticeable that the lower stack is slightly larger than the open storage system, at least in my case. Attach pictures instead of an extra thousand words.

Pros
  • Industry Best
Cons
  • Compatibility

Silky smooth headsets

Bought to build the Kilo TT. While the frame (purchased from Bike Island) comes with a headset, the standard headset is a cage rig and not as good as this one. Because the frame comes without the headset cups installed, the first time you assemble the frame is the ideal time to switch from caged bearings to sealed bearings.

Pros
  • Tough construction
Cons
  • Durability

NOT for High School BMX

Not compatible with High School BMX. So I really wanted this to work on my 1999 GT DYNO BMX build but the cup size is just too big. See photo. The silver cup came out of my steering column and the black cup is the product. No force or impact will force these cups into my steering column. The cup size of the product is 34mm, and the diameter of the 1999 DYNO head tube is about 32.2mm. So BMX builders watch out.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Not safe

Perfect solution for a threadless conversion

My son's bike had a 1" threaded fork and a 34mm frame. The Origin8 Pro Threadless Headset was the perfect solution for the 1 1/8" threadless connector. Every part of Origin8 was of high quality and fit perfectly. I love that the Origin headset has sealed bearings, which I think is a step above other headsets available. If I need to do another plug conversion, I'll take this headset. Before and after photos are attached.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Safety

but it works great for me

Bought for the Gravity Bullseye Monster fat bike from Bikes Direct because I bought an RST Renegade suspension fork and thought I needed an extended racing crown that only came with a sealed bearing works 45 degree crown interface to prevent the fork from hitting the down tube at full rotation. This meets the requirements of 45x45. After installing it on my bike, I found I didn't even need the extended crown race. The lower cup is larger than the stock lower cup and when combined with the crown

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Good value, looks a bit bulky

Installing a headset on a frame for the first time can be intimidating. The Park Tool website has very detailed instructions on how to install the headset, although it looks like you'll have to buy a few hundred dollars worth of their tools to get the job done. Many of these instruments can be improvised by searching the internet for methods. If there is a bike co-op in your area I would recommend going there first to see if they have the right tools for you. As for the headset itself, I've had

Pros
