These spats appear to be blast proof. I've used them a few times, issued shoes in up to a few feet of snow and have not managed to get some snow in my boots. And that while wearing low-top Gore-Tex hiking shoes—not even boots—all the time. They are very easy to attach and adjust. I will say that I feel they are a bit on the big side. I recently went for a walk along the UK coast. I wore them 13 of the 16 days I went. I wore them even when the weather was perfect, for the ground we walked on was swampy and dusty, and we trampled through the swamps.
