Nice instrument, but . . .Readings jump in different directions, unstable, and do not know the accuracy of readings even in a quiet room.

I am trying to teach audio volunteers in a church to keep the sound level below 95dB. I used the light signal function. Works perfectly. It flashes and they know they're making too much noise.

I like that the meter uses AAA batteries instead of 9V batteries. The backlight turns on and off automatically by detecting the ambient light. It's very accurate. As a concert goer, I can tell when the noise level is too high to be safe for my ears.

A handy tool Very handy for measuring building noise. There is an alarm I can set. When a sound is detected that is louder than the level I set, the screen lights up. And I only have to set it up once. After that it works every time I turn it on.

The noise around me isn't just in my head. Loud noises bother me. This device serves well and provides a basis for future purchases as a comparison of what is too loud for a home or car versus a quieter device. Hmm, I haven't tried it on my wife. a while.

Sturdy construction, large numbers and easy to read. This one uses AAA batteries, not expensive 9V batteries. It has the weight I need and a backlit display. Yellow is easy to find in low light. That's not true, it's very easy to remove the outer cover. I'm using it for testing as I want to soundproof a car. It's directional so it helps pinpoint hot spots. (The rear of the car is 2 or 3 times louder than the front.) This gives an idea of how the noise will change once the project is complete. It is not accurate for use as a dB meter. On a perfectly quiet night, it registers 35 dB before and after I get in the car. It looks like its zero dB is somewhere between 25 and 30 dB. It can be calibrated, but the tool for this is 5 times more expensive…

I bought this meter to get an objective comparison of the noise produced by two network devices. I needed the quietest that was reasonable. This counter has done its job. It easily gives decibel readings without any fuss. I can't tell if the decibel ratings were real decibels or not, but to compare two things I only need one comparison, so it was perfect.
