The plastic stop became brittle and broke. In my case this was the reason why the piston did not retract. This was the only part I had to replace, the rest of the o-rings and seals were fine. Pricey for a small piece of plastic but does the job. Fast delivery.

The mushroom tip broke off the ribbed body where the steel disc sits. The head gasket also ruptured. Where shards of plastic are everywhere. Wiped out and shaken out what he could. The air nozzle on the compressor hose blew out any remaining plastic. None of the repair videos show how to remove the ribbed casing (which is gripped by the cast aluminum head) when the mushroom end is broken like mine.
