Reliable product for all occasions, quality on par.

I was flattered by the laudatory reviews and the fact that the phono stage is from the same company as my vinyl player. However, it's a bummer. If through the amplifier and speakers, the sound seemed to be better, due to the raising of the bass, then when listening through headphones, it was just a disaster! The player is powered by its impulse power supply, the corrector from its own, either an overlay or something else happened . In short, a fairly strong background in the pauses, a rise in…

Pros
  • The box is small, its own power supply, settings.
Cons
  • The sound quality, when listening with headphones, is a rather strong background, the stereo base has become worse!

Sounds great and is great value for money

This has to be the best phono preamp I've ever heard for less than $200. The DIP switch settings below make this really useful, giving you some wiggle room when fine-tuning the sound for your particular cartridge. Very clear sound. IMHO this is a much better device than Shia Mani which sells for a little less but is well worth the extra money. Pro-Ject does a lot of cool stuff and I'm glad it exists. I have loved everything I have ever bought from them.

Pros
  • Phono Preamp
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

I wanted to like it, but there was clearly something wrong.

I bought the Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 primarily based on Revain reviews and other online reviews. The unit I received was clearly not working as there was a pronounced increased noise floor right out of the box. At first I thought the settings might be wrong for my MM cartridge but confirmed they were correct. The noise it added to the signal rendered it completely unusable. I chose to buy the phono preamp direct from Schiit as they guaranteed it would be tested and very happy with the results…

Pros
  • Home audio
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Better Sounding Vinyl

I've recently returned to vinyl after a 30 year hiatus. I bought a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo last November and am very happy with it. My current setup consists of Evo, Yamaha a-s301 and Klipsh rp160m. As I built my vinyl collection, some records sounded better than others. That was to be expected, but even those that sounded better didn't fare well in terms of separation and fidelity. I was beginning to think that maybe the amp wasn't very good for playing vinyl, or that I was just getting used

  • Home Theater
