Bought for my husband as a gift for Christmas 2016. I liked it a lot! until it stopped working a month ago. There was no pressure on the steam pipe. Bought an Ascurion extended warranty through a supplier who was completely useless. Sent it back for repair. It only got worse than it was. No steam pressure and leaking steam pipe. Now I'm waiting for a reply from the seller what they will do to fix this problem.

5 Year Review of Steam Espresso Machines

5 years later, Miss Sylvia is still as beautiful and strong as the day I opened her box. I have zero complaints. She walked 7 moves (4 cross-country). I make about 15 espressos every day. My advice is to keep it clean (something I put off completely for the first two years). Clean/lift the group head regularly and run an intensive descaling cycle if the water is hard. I had to replace their solenoid valve two years later because I had never done it before and it failed due to hard water build…

Rancilio does not endorse their product

I bought this espresso machine at the end of October 20th. I have taken out insurance from Asurion. The other day I had a problem with the car and I contacted Asurion, they said I need to contact Rancilio as it is less than a year old. Rancilio's US headquarters are in Illinois. I told them about my problem and they told me to contact the seller. I called the seller and I have to admit they tried to help but to no avail. They told me to call a third party and the mechanic wants $70 just to take

    Unfinished, used and dirty

I ordered this along with their Rancilio HSD-ROC-SS Rocky espresso coffee grinder with dispenser chamber. First, the top of the espresso machine itself is not finished. It has a white top as you can see in the picture with red lettering on the cutting template and red lettering. Not at all like the pictures showing the rust free finish. The meat grinder was even worse. It was used and still had coffee grounds in it. In the feeder and in the dispenser. I will return this item less than 12 hours…

Requires additional hardware to earn raves.

This unit replaced my first Silvia which served us both in daily morning use for 19 years. Like its predecessor, it's capable of brewing an espresso on par with your favorite Italian coffee shop, but only if you add 2 fairly expensive ingredients, show curiosity and patience to get through the learning curve, and the ability to play around with the insides (easy if you can follow simple instructions). These items are the coffee grinder and the Auber PID. Some manufacturers sell models with the…

My second Silvia for espresso machines

This is my second Rancilio Silvia. My previous device is V1 which I bought used. It still works, but I wanted to treat myself to a new device. Racilio Silvia is a solid machine made of stainless steel and off-the-shelf parts. Would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for some design issues. Obviously they aren't that bad as I bought another Sylvia. Tray capacity is too small. I have to empty mine almost every day to keep it from spilling onto my counter. It often splashes on me when I try to…

    Pros
    • I always liked it
    Cons
    • Not as thick as the others

I'm by no means an espresso connoisseur and wouldn't go on a two-week intensive espresso course (like some reviewers want to make you think) to come up with to make some very good espresso shots with this machine in the first two weeks. And I live in Miami, where we have espresso cafes on every corner. In other words, I've had more than enough espressos made on machines worth over $5,000 to compare. Any newbie reading reports of "extreme temperatures" and "nearly 400 shots of espresso" here…

Prepare a very good heavy cream espresso and a fantastic latte

Good - Very cool Italian design, made in Italy. Doesn't take up much space and makes excellent espresso and lattes. Easy to clean and fun to experiment and work with. Great for practicing your latte art. Makes fantastic microfoam for milk. My wife says that the coffee I brew is no worse than in a professional coffee shop. Not very good - there is a way to get a better drink. ALWAYS use freshly roasted coffee to get the best crema, stale coffee will not produce the expected espresso. It is…

The best home espresso maker under $1,000.

Except perhaps for the Expobar office, which tops the list in the sub-$1,000 price range, the Rancilio Silvia should be your only home choice. espresso machine. Sylvia is built like a tank. Treat it right, keep it clean and it will serve you for many years. What You'll Need: * The portafilter (the part where the coffee is placed) is solid, full-size, chrome-plated brass. It retains heat well, so the drink that enters your cup is at the right temperature. The 58mm diameter filter basket lets you

    • Gotcha

*** UPDATE: I've had this machine for a little over a year and everything I said in the original review below still applies. I would like to add that regular maintenance of this machine is essential to keep it in good working order. Backwash regularly, descale (especially with hard water) and clean the grinder. For the first 8 months I neglected to clean my coffee grinder and it was a mess to take apart and pick out all the accumulated coffee oils. So make sure you give this machine regular…
