Description of πŸ”„ Renew, 4 Liters / 1 Gallon

Phosphate free carbon substitute for organic removal in the aquarium. Ideal for use in systems where phosphate released from all activated carbon Poses a problem. Less aggressive than carbon making it well suited for reef and planted aquaria. Removes organics and particulates in the sub micron Range; It will also help control ammonia nitrates and phosphates. Beneficial in soft water aquaria where the pH raising property of many carbons is not an asset.

I like this chemical environment

I like this chemical environment. It's not as aggressive as carbon because it leaves nutrients in the water for your plants, but it cleans your water and the result is really good water quality for your fish. This product also lasts a very long time, making it economical.

Pros
  • Aquarium water treatment
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged

It's worth it.: Aquarium water treatment

I've been using it for some time instead of my old replacement activated carbon in my freshwater aquariums. Chemicals are much less likely to get back into the water if you leave it in the filter for too long. While not cheap, I have found that this material can last me about twice as long as the same amount of charcoal before requiring replacement. (3-8 weeks vs. 1-4 weeks depending on fish population)

Pros
  • Fish and aquatic animals
Cons
  • So far so good

Doesn't absorb odors as well as charcoal

While it appears to do a good job of keeping the water clean, it doesn't help with odor absorption. I find that good quality charcoal is better at making water crystal clear and also absorbs odors. Since using this product I've noticed an odor that just doesn't seem to go away, even with a fresh batch. I've never had this problem with high quality carbon. I can't comment on the intake of the necessary elements, but I dose the elements in my aquarium and have never had a problem.
