Terrible customer service with defective product

This is my brother's review for whom I bought the controller and who refunded my money: I have never dealt with a company with worse customer service. I bought a Renogy Rover 40 AMP solar charge controller from Revain and the unit failed. I sent it back because it was under warranty. I bought another device from Epever and it works great. I asked Renogy to refund me or my sister's credit card. I had to call and email them at least 10 times in two months. The wait for a call was over 30 minutes.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Has been damaged

Significantly worse than Xantrex C35

My 9 year old Xantrex C35, 35 amp charge controller failed just as I was starting a long vacation on my 50 foot solar houseboat (read my article in the Houseboat Magazine, The Joys Of Free Power), so I replaced it. But then I realized maybe I should have bought an MPPT controller, so I gave Rover a try. On a sunny day my 500Ah battery hits bulk (14.4v) around 10am and by 11pm I finished the absorption phase and the C35 got me to 13.5v. This Renogy device never gave me full Voltage bulk and I…

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!

Just bought a SECOND Renogy MPPT Charger (40 amp). My first system was a very large two panel setup on a dual axis solar tracker. I used AGM solar panels, a Renogy pure sine wave inverter and an automatic switch. He fed my whole house. I have moved (system #1 given to my daughter) and am building a second system based on Renogy products. Eight (8) 100W/12V/5.38A panels (two sets of four wired in series) to the MPPT Renogy 40A charger - five (5) sealed 100Ah leads -Acid batteries (500 Ah…

There are two of these in Solar & Wind Power

Update April 16, 2019, both have worked well to date. one of them didn't load. I checked that on the battery positive terminal, some of the plastic around it has melted. It's been pretty sunny this week, 35 amps for a few hours each day. Other Renogy work fine and work under the same conditions. I thought the terminal had a bad connection because you can't really see what you're screwing in, it's too tight for an 8awg. What I did was remove the melted plastic, now attach a larger AWG wire…

Best quality generators and portable power supplies

I bought this unit along with my Renogy 100w solar housing. Renogy products appear to be of high quality, although the instructions for their products are a bit stingy with information. I put my controller in a DeWalt case to protect it. See photos. Some things I learned: When installing mc4 connectors with Renogy 10 AWG ribbon cable, strip the end to install the metal connector, but ALSO strip about 3/8" from just the outside of the two-piece insulation This allows you to put the back cover on

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Some bugs

Inexpensive controller is a must for small and camping solar systems

Great replacement for the PWM controller that comes with Renogy Solar. We originally had a Renogy PWM 30 AMP controller and it was an entry-level controller in every way. The previous controller was limited to a 12v battery pack with 2 pairs of wires, one to connect to the solar panel and the other to connect to the battery side. Any load connected to the battery array had to be connected directly to the batteries and not regulated by the controller. They also had to rely on the LED indicators…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires power outlet

Not quite ready for lithium iron phosphate batteries

Last update - bluetooth died in one day. Tried everything to revive it but nothing worked. It should also be noted that there are quite a few solar charge controllers that claim to be compatible with lithium batteries, which I don't think is true. These solar chargers appear to be only minor upgrades from chargers that used to work with sealed, AGM, or gel batteries. Lithium batteries have a very narrow operating voltage. A tenth of a volt means peace. So these charge controllers that just try…
