We have purchased this for many Monarch caterpillars that we have had in our garden. We didn't succeed with the first batch, but the cage was easy to clean and we tried again! Weak and there were several small gaps in the grid. The gaps are large enough for small caterpillars to escape, so I am returning this item. Beyond that, the only access is to unzip the entire top. Ok while the caterpillars are young but once they form a pupa you can no longer access the cage. An excellent habitat for beetles! We chose a larger rectangular habitat because it has a clear plastic viewing panel so you can see the bugs inside better. Otherwise, if you're looking for a cage that's not so tall, that's great! Our leaf beetles needed more space, but it would be great for caterpillars. The zipped 'door' is too small to use for changing plants or removing frass (caterpillar droppings). So I actually started using it upside down because it's easier to leave the "top" open and lay it over the milkweed.
