I love this external hard drive, I've been using it for a while and have no complaints. Tech support was really helpful when I needed an answer. Will definitely buy again.**Update**This is an update. The last 2 months is constantly buggy. I have to disconnect and reconnect several times hoping it will work again. I will not buy this product again!

I'm pretty sure the hard drive worked as soon as I opened the package but I can't tell you why in an hour for a long time my computer couldn't read the disc and all I heard was a beep from the hard drive - an indication that something was wrong with the hard drive. Within 2 days Seagate Technical Support told me to either return the unit or replace it. Don't waste your time. Not a durable/reliable product.

IF YOU ARE A MAC USER, AVOID THIS PRODUCT! I installed this product and software as instructed. Follow the instructions to drag and drop the files I wanted to back up onto the drive and BAM GO! I received a message that the driver needs to be installed, but the documents are gone. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to use the TimeMachine function on the computer for work purposes. So now all my files are gone! IF YOU ARE A MAC USER DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

Read/write speed is very poor. Also, format the drive after consulting others. It works great for the first minute of file transfer, after that the speed drops to 20MB/s or less. and after that it never gets better. I recently bought a USB Type-C to Micro-B cable from Amazon Basics, it stays pretty stable at speeds over 90Mbps throughout the transfer. Mostly over 120mb/s. I do not recommend this drive unless you purchase the Revain Basics cable with it.
