Disappointed. As already mentioned, the locking tab was broken. You can use your old case that you took out and replace the motor, squirrel cage and resistor with a new one. Just buy a motor, squirrel cage and resistor, why buy the whole set if it has a broken tongue?

This part worked perfectly and was extremely easy to replace. I used it to rebuild a fan motor in August 2016 and it's still running in the Texas heat. Edit: August 2020 and this fan is still running four years later. Highly recommend this unit if you need to do this repair. .

Needs to be replaced because I had a leak between my lower windshield molding and the wiper housing on a 2006 e90. Water basically dripped onto the old one and fried the resistor while the fan rusted. Easy to replace after removing the glove box. Preventive checks/cleaning should be carried out frequently.

The fan on my 2011 328i has failed and is a perfect replacement. The old fan I removed from the BMW was a Valeo unit and it is exactly the same. The retail cost is $220 without the controller. This Valeo unit also comes with a control box. The job was easy, I replaced mine in 20 minutes by simply removing the passenger side cover under the dash. Works great! I suffered most of the winter in Washington, DC with my old fan motor running on and off until I could hit it with a hammer to possibly get it running again. The BMW fan motor on my 328i burst due to old age (rust was clearly visible), so I decided on this product based on the good reviews. However, when I received the item I did a quick test by simply spinning the fan and it wouldn't even spin! There was no gap between the fan blades and the motor housing (see my photo) and consequently the blades rubbed against the plastic making it impossible to turn! Works well but latch is broken. This appears to be an issue with the packaging of this fan motor - many, many reviews (on all sites, not just Revain) mention a broken locking tab. It still works without it, because there is a workaround - there is another tongue with a hole for the screw. When the motor is installed and properly aligned, this tab aligns with the support bracket that prevents it from rotating. It works and appears to be a built in backup of the locking tab.
