First Impression - Great all round lens

I don't shoot macro often, but I need a lens for nice portraits. This is the best macro for general photography for a number of reasons. 1. The auto focus speed is fast. Really fast. As long as you don't focus in range from front to back, the autofocus will be impressive. It's also quiet which is a nice bonus.2. Doesn't expand. This is more of a personal matter, but a retractable lens can distract models and throw the camera off balance.3. Stabilization. This is less important to me as I…

Works great with Nikon FTZ adapter

Love this lens. I do 80% of what I do with a macro lens and having switched to the Nikon Z6 I still have a few options that allow me to autofocus - which my old eyes need. I had a Tamron 90mm G2. That was great for a DSLR. But it's also the last G2 lens in Tamron's lineup that's due for a firmware update for the Z-series cameras. The date is unknown. Tired of waiting, and while it produced nice images, the weather protection was rubbish (lots of internal dust on Prime). I liked the original…

Ideal for portraits and macro photography; worth the money

beautiful photos. I almost feel like a pro. =) I like to describe myself as an amateur at an intermediate level. I decided to save up and use this lens for macro photography AND as a portrait lens. It works well for both BUT you have to consider a few things I've learned from using this lens: - It's not that fun to use with kids running around. Not the best lens for everyday use in the park as you will encounter a lot of AF hunting. Most photographers may already be aware of this, but this is…

Instant favorite

I'm only writing this in two days with this lens but so far I'm loving it. One of my favorite things to do is take close-ups of nature: flowers, butterflies, bugs, etc. I find this to be the ideal focal length for this type of work, making it easy to fill the frame with a small subject and throw the background completely out of focus . The macro capabilities are excellent and I'm amazed at how close I can get to my subject. There are a few specific points I can pass on so far. (1) One of the…

Great for the price but doesn't compare to a Nikon 105mm macro lens

I'm not usually a close-up photographer but somewhat limited the ability to use my long zooms for car racing, which is what I wanted try something I could do at home. This is the first macro lens I own (although I've used several over time) and it drew me in with its image stabilisation, f/2.8 maximum aperture and realistic macro image reproduction (f/1). The price was also very attractive. I've used this quite a bit over the last 12 months so here's my review. I mainly use it on a grip…
