StarTech Com Rack Enclosure Server Cabinet Review

This thing is a server rack monster. It's thick, heavy-duty steel and I'm sure there will be no problem holding the 200+ pounds it's rated for. I currently have a 1U server plus a 2U storage array and a UPS. The UPS will likely be upgraded with an extra battery and I'm sure the rack will handle the extra weight with no problem. Very nice high quality beautiful equipment carrier. I used this in a nursing home chapel to house audio equipment. While visible at the front of the room, it's certainly not an eyesore like a standard rack might be. It's very durable, yet easy to disassemble and reassemble if you notice your colleague put the top on backwards :)

Overall, the stand only took about 45 minutes to assemble (including the addition of acoustic foam since I had it installed in my living room). The foam might not have been significant, but the 10GB switch (Netgear) could get noisy, so I was cautious. Not sure why other reviews mention sidewalls and assembly. The cabinet arrived on half a pallet, fully assembled with front and rear locks only. Removing the side panels is not an option (as I see it). This is a nice piece of furniture if you like light wood. I bought the 'soundproof' 12U version which seems to be well built and has a nice finish. However, I didn't succeed. A computer with RAID cards and hard drives that I wanted to mute produces about 40dB. Three fans in a StarTech case generate about 50 dB of noise. This. I use this rack without wheels so I don't include them in the rating. It came in pieces, in a relatively flat box. Pretty quick and easy to set up.
