Good device, I tested it at 60 meters without an external power supply, for a longer cable you have to connect the power supply.

This product did not work for me. I connected the USB to DB9 converter from the server to the Star Tech extensions. I used an RS232 handshake tester to see why it didn't work. It seems that the CTS-RTS signaling is not an acknowledgment. There is no information on the Star Tech website that could help. I would not buy this product again. Blackbox has a much better product and information.

I have used 9600 baud serial data extenders between my computer and a Burr Brown 2500 over 160 feet with no problems. The included power supply was required by both devices to allow them to communicate over the distance I was using.

delivery was on time as planned. The product was easy to install (my plumbing was already in place); worked as expected.

Extended serial connection over 200ft with this for environmental control computer. They wanted 25,000 to move the panel, which was absurd.

Product description claims to be 'compatible with all RS232 communications' - FALSE. If you only want RXD, TXD, RTS, CTS then this should work. But if you need DSR/DTR, it will NOT work. And the RTS/CTS lines cannot be changed to DSR/DTR for some reason; I tried it, it didn't work. It would be great to know this before you buy anything over $600.

My company bought one of these for installation. It was dead on arrival. I needed a replacement FAST so I ordered another from Revain without worrying about returning the first one. The second was also DOA. I went through the troubleshooting steps with Startech Customer Support and thought maybe I did something wrong. In the end, they agreed that both sets were unsuccessful. Now I'm back where I started.
