Excellent polishing stone

Love the feel and response of this stone. I love the beautiful satin sheen it creates (slightly less mirror sheen). This is an amazing stone. I understand this is a polishing stone and not a sharpening stone, but I can feel a noticeable difference in sharpness after polishing with this stone. Nothing special, but it's noticeable that it just cuts a little softer. All in all a wonderful stone. I use it on all my knives, from edc pocket knives to outdoor fixed blade knives and kitchen knives. I…

Gives the blades a high gloss finish

I've used quite a few waterstones over the years and this one didn't disappoint. Mirror shine on both my German knives and my pocket knives. I'm not sure about the steel on my Westoff knife, but it's quite hard, and after sharpening on a 1000 grit Cerax stone, this Rika lays the final edge and polishes better than some of the other 8000 grit stones I have have. I would say it polishes just as well as my Norton 8000 waterstone without the "stickiness" that can occur with Norton. It needs to be…

Fantastic stone: whetstones

I have been using waterstones for a long time, have worn a lot and dare say I know my stuff at the moment. I tried several Suehiro stones about 20 years ago and wasn't impressed. This stone is by far the cutest pre-polish stone I've ever used. It follows my Shapton 2000, my other favorite and the only Shapton I still use. Both stones have fantastic feedback and cutting power. Rika is so good that it can be either a first stone if you sharpen a lot, or a whetstone if you just like a bit of tooth

Pros
  • Suehiro Rika 5000-DN baseless Grit: #5000 (finish whetstone)
Cons
  • high price
