PC won't boot with this card in it

I bought this card because of the price, simplicity, "promising" PCI-e interface, and two reviews here. The problem is that the PC (Dell Dimension 3100) does not boot after the installation - the HD spins up, but nothing else happens (at least for about an hour). Turning off the power and removing this card allows the system to boot properly. I updated the bios to the latest version with no changes. There is no setting in BIOS to enable/disable/change PCI-e 1x slot. Although the instructions…

Pros
  • Quick swap
Cons
  • Questionable buy for seniors

Inexpensive, hassle-free, just works

Pros:* Small (full-height mount on half-height board)* Inexpensive (equivalent boards can cost four times as much)* PCIexpress 1x slot (small, neat, slot compatible with most modern motherboards)* The 4-port drop cable doesn't allow for another slot on the back (I could put one in any PCIe slot)* Each DB-9M slot is port numbered from 1 to 4 * No drivers or compilation required on modern Linux operating systems (Fedora 13 in my case)* Works reliably with the following devices: Kantronics KPC3+…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Some issues

Worked fine for me

I installed it in a new cheap ASUS system with Windoze 7 Home Premium (or something like that) and it worked great right out of the box. I didn't have to install any drivers or anything like that. My only minor complaint would be that in the past you could often just plug in a serial cable and it was tight enough that it stayed good enough on its own without the screws getting screwed in. In this case the cable from the device (which I remember being quite tight on the old system) was NOT tight

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Protection

Manufacturer and specs are misleading

Manufacturing isn't the best connection but Syba is. Before I got this card, I bought other parallel USB adapters from Syba, half of which were DOA. I have not been happy with the quality of other Syba products and would not have bought this one had I known it was Syba and not Best Connectivity as advertised. The quality of this card seemed better than the parallel USB adapters I bought from Syba, but still wasn't impressed due to the lack of backwards compatibility with other parallel devices.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Minor issues

Works great with Windows 7/64

As you know, relatively few PCs today have serial ports, but many of the devices designed to work with these PCs only have serial ports. USB to serial converters tend to be unreliable, making this little device inexpensive and useful. The octopus connectors are particularly valuable, as otherwise there would not be room for four connectors. The PCI-E card is quite small and fits into tight spaces such as B. Tight spaces created by installing a large graphics card. As another reviewer pointed…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Style 90

Buy this card if you want to play around with drivers

Buy this card if you want to spend time with drivers, otherwise their website doesn't make it clear which driver is multifunctional and which is UART. The driver on the included disc loaded with no problem, but the COM ports didn't show up in Device Manager (WIn7 32-bit) even after a couple of reboots (double checked we had the right driver, and we did). We really needed a card that we could plug in, load a driver that worked without problems, and get on with our project. Now you need to order…

Pros
  • It's fun
Cons
  • It's annoying
