Has worked for a year so far

I've had it for a year and it worked fine for a PATA only laptop (PowerBook G4). I tried another KingSpec PATA SSD and it worked, but there were master/slave issues, meaning it was either a CD/DVD drive or an SSD. With this Transcend I was able to use both (with this one in Master mode). At least with the PowerBook G4, I can maximize the transfer speed of the supported DMA level with this SSD. So this is almost a theoretical maximum, but not quite. So I would recommend it if you have an older…

Notebook SDD (old Dells - 32GB)

A good replacement for a mechanical drive. Shows slightly faster performance (for O/S work---as a data disk, it's noticeably faster). This device does NOT include cloning software. If you don't have one, you should get something like Acronis True Image or Mini-Tool Partition Wizard or SSD Scope (maybe even EASIS Drive Cloning or Clonezilla) (((Mini_Tool Partition Wizard is best in my opinion. If alignment by sectors and Cylinders are not required, Clonezilla and gParted are excellent - similar…

Stress test with GIMP and POV-Ray.

Bought almost 3 years ago for a 2004 Toshiba laptop. Worked flawlessly and greatly increased system speed over the original 5400 rpm hard drive. It doesn't have SATA III, but it tripled the speed of my system compared to the original hard drive. PATA SSDs are becoming increasingly difficult to find. It is highly recommended to breathe new life into your old system. 32GB Transcend PSD330 2.5" IDE Internal Solid State Drive SSD (MLC Flash).

  • New to my collection
Cons

works computer and accessories

always works. The last two computer cases I built came without a sled. I knew that before I ordered them. I decided to use an external DVD drive. This works like a charm. Well built. plastic container. Very thin, but that doesn't limit performance. I would recommend it to another.

Plug and play zipper for old laptop.

Really gave the old laptop a new zip code. Plug and play IDE connections. Ubuntu 15.04 has breathed new life into a former Vista machine.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Useless features

Apparently not compatible with the Vaio VGN-A series

Considering the success others have described in reviving older laptops, I was disappointed to find myself on the Sony VAIO VGN-A197VP 2005 could not boot from it . The computer recognized the drive perfectly since I could install an operating system on it, mount it and view files etc., but it kept getting a black screen and a blinking cursor on boot. If I set the MBR to always prompt, I see MBR 1234 on boot: but none of the partitions actually boot. The BIOS also recognizes the drive well, but

  • Pretty much everything is fine
