The same part fits a 2003 Nissan Maxima. This fixed the sound you hear when the "blade" seems to be stuck in the fan motor, or hear the vibration at higher fan speeds. It's been fine for over a year now.

The fan itself works normally. It's actually easy to install in my 2003 Subaru. Subaru made the fan extremely difficult to access. You have to remove the glove box and some screws and stuff and then remove the wiring harness mounts to get it out of the way and then put the fan back in place. So a good fan. Installing a 2003 Subaru Outback is a test of patience.

The original 1997 Subaru Outback fan lasted 20 years and I expect the same from this replacement. The car was made in Indiana and it is certain that the original fan was made in the USA and not in Japan. The original fan failed because it would regularly not start. The fan was installed with no fan or duct modifications, and the electrical equipment associated with the Subaru also remained unchanged. This solved the problem immediately.
