Good for the Price - my new review

Grip heads are a vital part of any grip kit. Attach one end to your C-Stand and then do some cool stuff with the other side - like attach a sipigot/light - or put an arm on it. This is the magic piece you'll need to make it all work. The look is very similar to my Matthews heads. This one has a bit cheaper feeling to it - but is also a lot less expensive. It works well, locking in tight. It takes just about as much pressure to change/turn as my other heads. I do wish the handle was a bit for…

Pros
  • With an excellent locking system for stability and safety
Cons
  • The multiple mounts can be confusing to navigate, especially for beginners

Solid and Economical

If you hold the Lomtap grip head in one hand, an an "industry-standard" grip head from one of the big names, you'll immediately detect a quality difference; however, that difference is largely cosmetic, and in terms of its strength and functionality, the Lomtap head is every bit as good as "pro" heads costing more than twice as much. I use it to attach a boom pole with an Aputure 300x mounted on it, and it functions perfectly. In all, the price to value ratio for this grip head is excellent.

Pros
  • 6.8 x 3.5 x 2.5 inches
Cons
  • The boom arm may sag or droop over time, making it hard to maintain a stable shot

Good value and solidly constructed

I've been using grip heads, and grip equipment in general, for my work for the last 20 years. So I've had all sorts of equipment pass through my hands in that time and I really, really despise poorly made camera, grip and lighting gear. Fortunately, this is a pretty nice head. It's made out of all metal and feels very solidly constructed. All the knobs spin smoothly and seem very durable. When I put an arm into this and tightened it down, it clamps down solidly and I don't feel like it's any…

Pros
  • Flexible Use: Used to attach the extension arm to the light stand and hold it in place, allowing you to adjust the height and angle for flexible use of your photography equipment.
Cons
  • The assembly process is relatively complicated and time-consuming

Perfectly fine value clamp

This is not a really nice clamp, but it is an excellent value at around $25. If you're not (1) using this to hold really heavy stuff, (2) using it professionally, (3) having it bang around with other heavy equipment, or (4) working with arthritic or weak hands, this'll probably be fine. The one I got was well-greased!My basis for comparison is a nicer Kupo-style clamp. I like it better than this one, but it's over 50% more expensive. My high rating is based on the great value of this one, along…

Pros
  • Lighting
Cons
  • It's quite expensive compared to similar products on the market

A must have for filmmakers and photographers!

If you are planning a video and want to be prepared for the unexpected, you’ll need some grip equipment! This kind of gear will free up a hand and hold things right where you need them

Pros
  • Product is sturdy and nice for price
Cons
  • It's quite heavy and bulky, making it hard to move around or transport
