Great Stainless Strainer

When I received this cocktail strainer, I was immediately impressed by the thickness of the steel and the tightness of the spring coils. I had a smaller, cheaper strainer, and this one is MUCH better. The spring coil removes all bits of ice from a shaker to deliver a clear martini or Manhattan or whatever. The sturdy, heavy-duty stainless base doesn't flex at all when you push it against the shaker mouth. This is quality all the way.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Pros
  • Coming from someone who owns a mobile bar company and uses them often
Cons
  • So smaller than what you see in the picture it’s like a toy

Makes a world of difference and is indescructible

I ordered this after I got sick of using a fine mesh strainer alongside my crummy free hawthorne strainer to keep out ice chips. To my delight, this does a very good job at keeping out those pesky small ice chips without having to whip out extra equipment!Just for that I think the cleaning process is justified. It's relatively easy to just pull off the spring and wash it separately, just don't lose the spring. I have ordered a second spring from barfly to double up on this strainer, which is…

Pros
  • Great quality sturdy and works like a dream
Cons
  • The strainer may not fit well in certain types of strainer stands

Not durable in my review

Used this julip strainer for over a year. Dropped it once and it broke. If not for that, it wad a great strainer but can't recommend because of the durability issue.

Pros
  • Top notch professional grade. Very tight spring to strain with. Highly recommended
Cons
  • The strainer may be prone to rusting over time

Felt cheap best in my review

Felt cheap, material is thin and seam where the handle was riveted on looks like it will fall apart quickly. Return was easy.

Pros
  • epic piece for any saints fansimply amazing. bartender for 20 years. best piece of machinery in the biz
Cons
  • The color may fade after continuous use and washing

Best strainer out there

You're not going to get a better strainer than this. The spring is much tighter than similar strainers. The frame is heavy and has a quality feel.Because the spring is so tight, getting it off to clean is a bit more of a pain than other strainers, but it's worth the extra effort.

Pros
  • Love the copper sheen, weight and utility... super sexy piece of bar equipment
Cons
  • The strainer may not be suitable for high-alcohol cocktails

Nice Hawthorne Strainer!

This strainer is fantastic for the price. The spring-strainer is coiled tight but is smooth and easy to open and close the mouth. It's really good at a really good price.

Pros
  • Great quality.
Cons
  • The strainer may slide off the mixing glass when being used

Love the side and wish I bought it sooner

Love this item I have wanted one for years. I cannot believe I waited this long. When I make my cosmopolitans it allows the sheath of ice to be on top of the drink. This is very well-made very sturdy.

Pros
  • This is a well made strainer and fits perfect with the 17 oz Barfly mixing glass.
Cons
  • Looked nice works well.Plating is soft it is gouged from cutting off the tie wrap.

This is the model you want!

I made the mistake of ordering their other model without the 4 dog ears. Man that thing was so frustrating to use. This model with the dog ears clings tight to the top of my glass or shaker for ease of use.

Pros
  • I love this spring strainer, great for keeping the large parts like ice or fruits out of the glass.
Cons
  • The strainer lacks a sturdy grip, making it difficult to hold when straining drinks

Scalloped Strainer Too Small

Bought a fancy copper scalloped julep strainer to use with my Barfly mixing glass. While it appears to be well made, it's too small for use. It doesn't wedge itself in place and seems like it would let plenty of ice out around the edges. It is, however, the right size for a pint glass or even a small Boston shaker tin. So if you're stirring in one of those, this should work fine. But not for a full size mixing glass.

Pros
  • Really nice quality and color!
Cons
  • The strainer may be prone to leaks during the straining process

This strainer is what every wannabe bartender should have. Many of the mixed drinks, especially those that look like they came out of Rick's Cafe American (and that era of night spots that had cloth tablecloths over little tables with a lamp or candle) In making Grasshoppers, you need to get the creme de cacao, creme de mint, and real cream, ice cold. Add 1-1-1 in a jigger of copped ice, shake, and then strain the green liquid into a martini glass. The copper plated strainer stands out in a…

Pros
  • nice!
Cons
  • The strainer may have a tendency to pop off during the straining process

Not Your Average Hawthorn Strainer

I paid up for this brand due to its durability and was not disappointed. That's my feedback! Also like that the spring is replaceable.

Pros
  • works as intended and made of good steel.
Cons
  • The vintage appearance may not suit all modern bar setups

Perfect hawthorne, barely need to double strain anymore

Bought this after hearing bad things about Cocktail Kingdom and their service. Glad I did because its a very hefty, solid hawthorne strainer that looks like its going to last forever. The availability of spare springs is great too.Glad I saw this on The Educated Barfly. I only wish that I could have gotten the stainless version instead of the copper. I dont really know how durable the coating/finish is and I dont really want it getting in drinks. Still a stellar product though.

Pros
  • It does it's job, we love the copper color, and it's holding up over time.
Cons
  • The strainer may be flimsy and easily bend under pressure

Works okay in the kitchen

I got this for the kitchen, not a bar. I’ve been getting into juicing and smoothies lately and occasionally find rough bits kn my concoctions. It’s probably a case of not running the blender long enough, but I thought I would try running my juices and smoothies through this strainer. Although it means transferring them to another container that the strainer will fit, it’s kind of fun (if I’m in the right mood). You control the fineness of the strain, if that’s the right way to phrase it, by how

Pros
  • Kitchen Utensils & Gadgets
Cons
  • The strainer may not strain small particles effectively, leading to a gritty texture in cocktails
