Almost a year in - solid/reliable; Linux support details

I've had this on the server for about 11 months now. There were few or no reviews at the time of purchase and I was skeptical that two Intel GigE NICs could be offered for such a low price. At the time, Revain had slow stock levels of such items and delivery times, so this was chosen based on a combination of expected delivery date and cost. So far there have been absolutely no problems using this on Linux with the igb driver. This is used in an application where I would experience a loss of…

good for failover, bad for bandwidth increase

my purpose of purchase is to add more ethernet port to increase bandwidth of my storage server cheaply. (More information please, Google SMB Multilink connection) This is a home server only, no need to move to 10g network. I set up some simple tests. I wasn't happy with the results so I decided to buy another product to test, another product works much better than this product at a lower price. (Sorry man, I won't give you any more product information here. This is not an advertisement or a…

Intel Dual Port Gigabit PCI-E Card

Works great on an OpenBSD gateway server. I have 3 internal wired networks + 3 internal wireless networks + internet uplink on this server - 7 ethernet ports in total - 1 onboard on motherboard + quad port Intel PCI-E x4 card + this 2 port Intel PCI-E x1 card. Currently with Dell Optiplex 3020 SFF. The card heats up like everyone else. It doesn't seem very hot. It survives in a Dell SFF case with no real ventilation, sandwiched between a power supply and a quad-port card. The card came with…

Doesn't get 1Gb/s on both ports at the same time

Caution, don't buy for pfsense if you need 1Gb/s. When using this NIC on my pfsense server which uses 1 port as WAN and 1 port as LAN and not able to transmit the full 1Gbps it runs at max 700Mbps it had to come up using 1 port of this adapter for switched WAN and Ethernet port on PC will get full 1Gbps.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Some minor issues

Plug and play for computers and accessories

Easy to install and seems to work perfectly. If it lasts, I'll give it 5 stars without hesitation. But it's still too early for that. The time will show.
