Great for butterfly habitat

I used it to house caterpillars in the butterfly stage. Worked great! It's lightweight yet durable, and the screen is solid and not easy to break.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Not as thick as others

Catapillar Home Good for Houses & Habitats

Our caterpillars have always had a homemade house with removable covers. So it's not that convenient when you need to remove the butterflies. This cage is durable, easy to use, and the front door opens and closes to remove butterflies after hatching. Transparent plexiglass window for viewing. And a breeze to keep clean.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Only available in black

The cage is so-so, with serious flaws

I don't like that the bottom plate hangs in the cage. Nothing is holding him back except his own weight, which is not enough. If you keep insectivores, feeding insects like flies, crickets and roaches can come out. The bottom flap, which I believe is intended to allow access to food and water bowls without opening the entire cage, does not close tight enough to prevent a small feeding insect from escaping. Also, the pivoting plate is so short that it does not provide easy access to the cage. Iโ€ฆ

An excellent aviary for a praying mantis, BUT.

Great case that's perfect for my Malaysian praying mantis. Assembly wasn't that easy - the screws WON'T want to go in the holes. However, I pitch. So my husband provided the muscles. After we installed it I noticed a small hole in the net which was gross because although it was a small hole it was big enough for the needle crickets to escape. Repair duck tape. Relax. I set everything up with the substrate tray, substrate and plants, move the praying mantis from her jar to the new home, add theโ€ฆ

Monarch raiser says 5/5!

Ideal for 4th and 5th age Monarch ranges (as this cage requires assembly I wouldn't go much smaller than a 4th age cage as there are some potential pinch points and a few tiny There are gaps between sections that are very small caterpillar could easily escape). I particularly like the large door with a transparent viewing window. The removable bottom makes cleaning much easier. The strong wire and metal frame means I can easily wash it between groups of tracks to prevent mold/bacterial growthโ€ฆ

Suitable for growing a small amount of monarchs

I wish this cage was two or three times larger and made of stainless steel instead of aluminum. The front door handle was also missing from the package but as I was in dire need of a cage I kept it myself. For the price it's not worth it in my opinion. Next year I'll be building something out of raw wood and stainless steel mesh that better suits my monarch's needs. This cage holds a very small 6 inch pot of milkweed. Luckily the spurge was growing like crazy in my garden so I planted some andโ€ฆ

Not what I needed but seems ok.

I ended up sending it back because I didn't read the description carefully enough, so it was with me. I wanted to find something to keep snails. So if you are looking for a snail shell, this is NOT the place. The whole cage is covered with mesh and the floor is not very deep. Also, it has gaps, especially where the tray needs to go through, making it unsuitable for holding small insects or young insects. However, it was fairly easy to assemble. THIS DOES NOT COME WITH A SUBSTRATE TRAY. That'sโ€ฆ

  • Absolutely amazing!

So close to five stars apart from these issues

The product itself I am very happy with. My son recently caught a predatory praying mantis and this makes a much better home for the creatures my son catches. Here are the questions I had.1. The direction was terrible. The images are too small and blurry, so the zoom doesn't work either.2. I researched them on the internet. Finding her was pretty easy. But the online looked very different. Once loaded I was able to zoom in far enough to see enough letters to figure it out. Of course, myโ€ฆ
