What is Muun
Muun is a self-custodial mobile wallet for bitcoin and the Lightning Network on iOS and Android, made by Muun Wallet Inc. It uses a 2-of-2 multisig model in which the phone holds one key and Muun's servers co-sign, with both keys exportable in an encrypted Emergency Kit.
Who holds the keys
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Key control | 2-of-2 multisig: the phone holds one key and Muun co-signs daily transactions; Muun's servers store only the second key. |
| Recovery | The Emergency Kit contains both keys (encrypted) and output descriptors, so funds can be spent without Muun. |
| Seed phrase | No mnemonic seed phrase; backup is a Recovery Code on paper or email, password and recovery code. |
| Custodian | Muun does not hold users' bitcoin; with turbo channels for Lightning, users briefly trust Muun not to double-spend a channel opening. |
Features and supported networks
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Platforms | Mobile apps for Android and iOS. |
| Supported networks | Bitcoin only, on-chain and Lightning, from a single balance. |
| Lightning | Pays Lightning invoices with no channel management for the user. |
| Multisig | Every wallet is 2-of-2 multisig; outgoing transactions need both keys. |
Security and audits
- Open source under the MIT licence since February 2021: the iOS (falcon), Android (apollo), libwallet and recovery-tool code is on GitHub.
- A separate open-source recovery tool lets users move funds using the Emergency Kit without Muun's servers.
- No published third-party security audit is linked; the site invites users to audit the code on GitHub.

How voting works
Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
