This is a great tool for measuring the temperature of an area without touching it directly. I've used it to determine the temperature of a chimney with just one pilot light, check for heat leaks throughout the home, the temperature at a car service center and a hardware store. Pretty convenient and very accurate. Remember that the area where the temperature is measured increases with distance and if you measure through the glass you will get the temperature of the glass surface, all this is explained in the instructions. Great tool and highly recommended.
