I highly recommend it for beginners and experts alike.

IT CAN GO FROM 5 TO 10 DEGREES, BUT THAT'S NOTHING IF EXTREMELY HOT TEMPERATURE IS NECESSARY TO MEASURE. This is the cheapest and highest quality IR thermometer on Amazon. I highly recommend it for both beginners and experts. You can also purchase a high-temperature K-type thermocouple and/or pyrometer to measure air temperature. The IR measures surface temperature and the k-type thermocouples read air temperature. It is difficult to prevent thermocouples from catching fire.

Pros
  • Good
Cons
  • Doubtful

This is a great tool for measuring the temperature of an area without touching it directly. I've used it to determine the temperature of a chimney with just one pilot light, check for heat leaks throughout the home, the temperature at a car service center and a hardware store. Pretty convenient and very accurate. Remember that the area where the temperature is measured increases with distance and if you measure through the glass you will get the temperature of the glass surface, all this is…

Terrible Ergonomics (IR-708)

I have several IR thermometers and this one has absolutely the worst ergonomics I've ever seen. The trigger is too high above the grip, so you have to stretch your finger a lot to reach it. And the trigger is tiny and angled to keep your finger slipping off! Some other cons: - poor LCD backlight (NOT "bright" as the description claims) - uses a more expensive 9V battery instead of AA or AAA like some competing devices - slow, with updates of exactly 1 per second . Accuracy is fine. I don't…

Great tool, best for testing, measuring and verifying

Easy to read in the dark and the screen is big enough for me. Comfortable to hold. I measured a calibrated oven at 1780 degrees on the coils and had less than 1/2 degree off. The instructions are really good with a table for all sorts of things. Made me feel like I got my money's worth. The only thing I can call a possible deal breaker is if you have to read the screen at an angle of 30 degrees or more. Anyway, I don't know about the rest. That's all I could ask for. I bought it to test around…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not the best

This is a very affordable IR thermometer from a reputable manufacturer.

t is an infrared thermometer at a very attractive price from a reputable manufacturer. So imagine my surprise when it arrived with a factory battery and when tested showed readings that differed by about 5-10 degrees (on suitable surfaces like walls, plastic, wood, etc.). The Amprobe has a few nifty downsides: (1) Backlit LCD screen which makes reading the temperature MUCH easier in brighter rooms. (2) Amprobe has a hold feature that helps extend battery life. The hold function allows me to…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!

Surprisingly Good Best Infrared Thermometer

I bought this unit in a gold box box for a little over half the current price in September 2013, about sixty two dollars, something to keep in mind. .It replaced another unit that had not survived the recent move and was difficult to operate. Used to detect heat leaks in a house, finds cold/hot leaks around windows, doors etc fairly quickly. Of course the closer you get to the area to be checked this is great for finding really small leaks. His instructions are reasonable, not so detailed that…

Surprisingly Good Thermometers

I bought this in a gold box deal for only half the current price in September 2013, about sixty two dollars, something to keep in mind. He replaced another device that did not survive. a new move and was difficult to use. Used to detect heat leaks in the home, it finds cold/hot leaks on windows, doors etc fairly quickly. Of course the closer you get the narrower the area to check gets, ideal for locating really small leaks. His instructions are reasonable, not so detailed that you have to shake

Pros
  • Typical uses include food preparation and cooking, outdoor cooking, automotive diagnostics, HVAC maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, industrial equipment maintenance, fire protection, thermal leak detection in homes, and enthusiast applications.

Wanted to be liked but was disappointed.

On paper, the Amprobe IR-750 is an impressive instrument. However, real use did not live up to expectations. This device was compared to a professional reference thermocouple meter as well as an inexpensive Etekcity infrared thermometer with a spot ratio of 12:1. ) The 50:1 spot ratio is a great claim. Most IR thermometers have a spot ratio of 10:1 or 12:1. We ran a heat source test using a 100W (yes, we found one) incandescent bulb that was 2.3 inches in diameter. Measurements were taken…
