Review on πŸ”‹ Tymate Solar Tire Pressure Monitoring System with 5 Alarm Modes and 4 External Tmps Sensor by Nick Mitchell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The first was junk. The second worked perfectly.

After doing a lot of research and reading reviews I purchased a Tymate Solar TPS for my RV before picking it up. When it arrived I tested it on my car. How painful. Sensors had to be constantly re-clocked or tire positions had to be changed. The buttons on the device didn't work and I got stuck on a menu item and couldn't exit. The instructions were poor and the device did not respond as instructed. I've spent over two hours putting things on, taking them off, putting them back on, taking them off, rebooting, reconnecting and still not displaying or working properly until now. I've been considering a replacement or maybe an upgrade, but if cheap Chinese junk takes that long to diagnose I won't waste any more time. I'm buying a more expensive reliable device with a respected name and reputation. You get what you pay for. Do not buy this device. UPDATE - against my better judgment and mostly because the other TPMS I was interested in was twice the price and since there were so many good reviews, I decided to give this TPMS another try and ordered a replacement in the hopes that I got a lemon for the first time. Good news, so far so good. I tested it on my Prius and everything works as it should. However, I bought it for a new travel trailer that I'll be picking up in a few weeks, so I'm postponing my final decision until I use it on a trailer. I am increasing my original rating from 1 star to 3 stars. Based on current functionality I'd give it 4 stars (not 5 because the instructions are terrible) but I don't think I had to order a second unit to get it working so the 3 stars stay. In fact, I think some (not all) of my previous problems were caused by very poorly written instructions. I mean, it doesn't even mention that the sensors have a CR1632 battery that can be replaced when it dies, let alone how to go about it. The instructions say about the standby mode. What I learned with the second device is that standby is when the device is on. This isn't a special screen or mode that you have to get to by pressing a key sequence. The instructions talk about how to hold the "-" and "Set" keys together. DO NOT DO THAT! This is a factory reset that will overwrite the units of each sensor code. I think that's part of what confused me with the first device, although I still maintain that the buttons didn't work when pressed. I also found that you cannot turn the device on and off when the USB power cable is connected. The device must be unplugged and running on solar energy for it to turn on and off. To do this, by the way, press and hold the "-” button for 5 seconds until you hear a beep. I will post another update in a few weeks after using the device on a trailer ride. UPDATE 2: Just got back from a 2 week trip with this TPMS. It worked perfectly. I have no complaints. I would have increased my rating to 5 stars but left it at 4 as the first unit I received didn't work. After using this I can't think of a single reason to spend a lot more money on a more expensive device. I have a 24 foot trailer that is towing a Toyota Highlander. Reception was not a problem at all. I'm considering getting another set for the Highlander.
