This is a great external drive if you don't need to burn discs. It's USB powered, so you don't have to worry about an outlet or external power source when you're away from home, and it reads both commercial DVDs and PC-burned DVDs with ease. I was able to use mine to install windows on my desktop. The release mechanism works like a laptop unit: pressing the EJECT button activates a spring that pushes the tray out about a quarter of an inch. You pull the tray out by hand to insert the disc, and then put it back in the same way. I like it better than the automatic ejection and feed, which probably no longer works after a while.
