. I replaced the original 33 year old cover. an old metal coating applied by our home builder to the outside back wall of our home where the patio is. The old metal cover only covers both sockets when not in use, but when one or both sockets are in use, e.g. a fountain that is always plugged in, the unused outlet is open rather than closed, which has always bothered me so much. I ended up ordering this used cover to replace the original and I wish I had done it many years ago . Since I was in the process of installing this new cover, I also replaced the outlet with a Leviton outlet. The original outlet was not a GCFI outlet as it is already on a GCFI protected circuit with our three bathrooms, so I was able to leave the outlet as non-GCFI. First I've attached photos of this used cover, then the original socket and cover, but after I've already removed them (I forgot to take a photo before). I also made sure to use caulk under the black sponge backing where it meets the plaster, as well as around the edge after it's installed. The putty in the photo was recently applied, but it has since started to dry to an off-white color that blends better with the plaster.
