Review on πŸ”Œ BIGTREETECH TMC2209 TMC2208 Integrated Control Board by Jacob Seymour

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great board and features for the price.

Bought this for my 2020 Ender 3 Pro along with their tft35 e3 v3 touchscreen and real bltouch. My printer is much quieter. I would consider this a must have update for Ender 3 Pro. Installation wasn't extremely difficult, but there are a few things to note.1. Disconnecting the cables from your stock Ender motherboard is a hassle because they have factory hot glue on all the connectors. You're going to spend a lot of time removing those blobs of hot glue before you can turn off all of your electronic motors and limit switches. This was probably the most time consuming part of the install for me.2. Swapping cables from an old motherboard to a new motherboard can be a daunting task. The main power wires aren't very long, so I had to switch the wires from the old board to the new one, with the new board hanging right in front of the old board.3. You have two options for the firmware. Either run the latest precompiled firmware for your printer from the BTT github (with or without ABL options), which is as simple as saving the file to the SD card and powering on the printer, which will automatically load the firmware from the SD card or download the latest Marlin source files and edit/compile your own firmware. I won't go into detail here, but editing/compiling your own firmware is much better and you end up with firmware that is more tailored to your printer and you have a better tuning base to dial in those ABL prints and performance . There are many guides and videos on how to edit/compile the Marlin firmware and Marlin is at odds with a lot of really helpful people who can give you advice or instructions if you need it.

Pros
  • β€»3. Increase the distance between the control chip and the components to avoid problems from the heatsink.
Cons
  • boring package
