Updated 12/22/17 Ok I have to say this works very well. And my fears about the quality were wrong. I've been using it regularly for a few months and it works great. The hand pump to start the flow is easy to use and not too fast to pump all my sand from the bottom of my tank although it takes a bit but that's what you get with sand. If the sucking part was longer, maybe it wouldn't suck so much sand. I've upped the rating to 1 star because the quality is way better than I initially thought, but I'm still only giving 4 stars because it doesn't work as well as I'd like. I ordered another one for my mother in law because she liked how it worked and she just bought an aquarium. Original post - 08/19/17. I got it because it has a hand pump to start the siphon and it should work. with sand bed. The sand end of the pipe is a bit short for sand in my opinion, but the flow control valve needs to slow the flow rate so hopefully it doesn't suck up all my sand, but not as much fish poop either. I will update the review after using it more and see how long it lasts. I'm very concerned because the seams on the hose seem to be very thin, especially where the valve is. Again, we'll see how long that takes. I got one star for the overall flimsy feel and another because the instructions say it comes with a zipped storage pouch, which it didn't.
