Review on Excalibur Food Dehydrator 9-Tray Electric: Accurate Temperature Control for Faster, Efficient Drying (Black) by Jeanette Jenson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Gardeners and cooks are delighted! I ran all summer. (downgraded one notch for cleaning)

See my glowing review below. But I have one big complaint. The dryer is not easy to clean. Please, Excalibur, make a block where the fan and electronics can be removed so that the dehydrator itself can be properly cleaned. I hate any kind of cleaning and would definitely like to take the entire non-electric part of the unit to the tub and wash it. It gets really sticky! In addition, herbs and other light objects fall into the compartment area and can be difficult to locate. Otherwise, my following assessment is still correct. I had to buy more glasses, the garden produced so much. And now winter squash. I could cry. --------- First Review ------ I've never been happier! I have so many products I've potted myself to the point of numbness. Canning is hot work and if you do it like me it takes up a lot of shelf space etc. Last year I bought this dryer at the end of the year. I dried a lot of vegetables and ground most of them in a blender. Then I put them in liter jars with wide necks. I have a vacuum canister attachment that works great. As a result, I had much more food in a much smaller space, and it was enough for most of the winter. I've still canned and frozen, but not to this extent. This year I can dry feed all summer long. I already have ready-made cans of pumpkin, raspberries and strawberries. I use powder for everything. Baking, cooking, smoothies, whatever you can think of. I also mix everything together (except tomatoes and broccoli), add almond flour and chia seeds and some oatmeal and eat hot (with milk) for breakfast. It tastes incredibly sweet, like you've put a ton of sugar in it. Eggplant is my favorite as it is a very dense powder and has a sweet taste but no eggplant flavor. Even cabbage fits in my granola, and if you don't add too much, it will be delicious too. Summer squash chips are great on their own, but when mixed with a little oil, garlic, salt, and parmesan before drying, they're just amazing. Anyone who tries them just can't believe it. The dryer runs constantly. Not everything recovers well, but in powder it doesn't matter. The dryer is on the porch and a window fan extracts heat from the window. All jars and lids are reusable. I started with vacuum bags but almost went broke! I also bake all my breads and always substitute some of the flour for one of my powders. Tomatoes are great for this, but all powders have their uses depending on the type of bread you're making. If there are no fresh tomatoes, but I can't stand bought ones, tomato powder in the salad helps a lot. Yes, and one more thing. I dry all the skins on my chickens and sprinkle them too. I add powder to seedling holes when planting tomatoes and other large vegetables. Just place them in the freezer until a bunch forms, then dry and chop. I could talk about this dehydrator all day.
