Review on Tamron 17 50Mm Aspherical Pentax K Mount by Velizar Iotchev ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality, absolutely not expected for such a price.

About 2.5 years ago, I began using this lens. This buy was without a doubt a good one. In many ways, he's the ideal man. Sharpness at the long end with an open aperture is the only area where it falls short of its sigma equivalent. Since I primarily shoot portraits with it at 50mm and f/2.8, I don't think this is too important. The best distortions, XA, and a marginally superior stabilizer more than make up for this one shortcoming. I feel confident recommending it to non-shooters. It's risky for "machine gunners" because they can mistake a shallow depth of field at a wide aperture for a lack of focus. They'd be better off with one of Nikon's basic 16-85 or 18-105 zooms. They may also be more convenient for trips.

Pros
  • The center is really sharp, and the edges aren't too shabby either. + The least extreme example of its type of distortion. Absent altogether between 24 and 50 mm. + Few color shifts or distortions. You can't even see them in RAW, so there's no point in trying to fix them. With a 2.8 aperture and excellent coatings (light resistance), this camera is practically amazing.
Cons
  • - From 35mm to 50mm, wide open sharpness isn't quite up to par. Autofocus and image stabilization are noisy.
