Review on ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Enhanced Printer Performance with the Creality Leveling Compatible Mainboard by Kyle Rock

Decent upgrade!

My Z axis limit switch has failed so I have decided to upgrade to a touch sensor instead of replacing the switch. It seems to work everywhere the BL touch has ever worked. I chose this one, CR Touch not BL Touch based on some other reviews I saw. I liked the idea of a metal dipstick versus plastic. It uses an optical sensor instead of the hall effect used in BL-Touch. Also, the sensor usually retracts when it's turned off or not in use. However, BL touch has a long track record and is very popular, I'm not criticizing it. The installation didn't go too bad. The screws that screwed the CR-Touch to the mounting bracket were a little tight, like the screw holes were dirty with paint or a slightly wrong thread pitch. Although a tight fit acts as a thread lock to prevent loosening. I decided to make a notch on the side of the fan cover for the wire coming from the sensor so it would connect to other wires instead of running through the top of the fan. shroud. When removing the Z-axis limit switch, be sure to remove the hot glue holding the connector in place before pulling on the connector on the motherboard. Pull the cable through the cable sheath, starting at the motherboard with the small connector and pushing/pulling it up to the CR touch sensor.*** To get the firmware on the Creality website go to: Support -> Download -> Accessory Firmware -> Firmware CR Touch for 32-bit motherboard. At the time of writing, the required firmware is NOT found under the '[Series] Printer Firmware' link (ie 'Ender Series Firmware'). It is located in the accessory firmware link. There is a CR-Touch PDF that lists different firmware options for different printer models. Also, under the Accessory Firmware link, there are links to ZIP files that contain different firmware for different printer models. Pay attention to the firmware data. September 2021 or later. Having said all this about the firmware, I found and downloaded it but didn't use it. Instead I used the Jyers UI Firmware (ENDER 3 v2 ONLY) and also the Jyers Display Firmware (DWIN_SET (gotcha)). At first the Jyers firmware would not load on my Ender 3 v2 because I had started updating the firmware on CR-Touch. Apparently the Jyers firmware looks for the BL-Touch/CR-Touch when installing and fails if it doesn't find it. After installing the CR-Touch and removing the Z-Limit switch, the Jyers firmware (for BL-Touch) installed without issue. HS (high speed) versions of Jyers firmware also work with CR-Touch; It's slightly faster in probing as it doesn't raise the probe pin between bed clearance checks. I gave 3 stars for the installation because of the effort involved. I wish Creality would have pre-wired the machines for touch sensors to make them easier to use. Will definitely buy again!
