I had a small engine with an aluminum crankcase that had stripped threads. I took some measurements and the old connector was 12mm x 1.5, the same thread pitch just slightly larger. I bought a 13mm x 1.5 tap and carefully enlarged the old threads to fit one of these. It seems to be working fine, now it pulls properly and is holding up well. Doesn't screw in as smoothly as the original plug when the engine was new, but there's a 50/50 chance it was a faucet and not a plug. It was a very simple solution anyway (just drill a bigger hole and use one of these - I didn't even have to drill the original hole). If you're doing this on the motor or gearbox, just make sure they're aligned so any falling chips go OUTSIDE AND NOT INTO THE gearbox.
