Review on Sigma 50mm F1.4 Art DG HSM Lens πŸ“Έ for Canon - High-performance and Versatile Lens for Canon Cameras by Li Mei ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

All is well, liked the product, didn't buy it for nothing.

The lens immediately captivates with its sharpness characteristics. Perfectly resolves both the pixel density on the crop and on the full format. The transition from the zone of sharpness to blur is very smooth, so if the autofocus is a little mistaken, then this is not critical. Bright small objects outside the depth of field do not turn into "nuts", although if desired, you can see the nine-sided texture of the "circle". As a portrait lens, when mounted on a crop, it is quite tolerable, the problem is that the angle of view here is about 30 degrees, which is slightly larger than that of an 85mm lens in full format, so you have to get a little closer - "breathe" on the model; The depth of field in this case is very small and good alignment with the camera is necessary. Half-length portraits in full format are quite good. There is an impression of a certain "smoothness" of the image in the sharpness zone, although this sharpness is very decent. But the bokeh of this lens let us down a bit. It also loses to its brother 35 / 1.4 Art, and very inexpensive, however, non-autofocus old planars. It was the expectations of interesting bokeh that prompted me to buy this lens, and, well, sharpness. For insipid bokeh, I deduct a point from the overall score. I use it on Canon EOS 7D and 5D Mark III cameras. For myself, I don’t find problems with color transfer and searching for XA. It is also important to note that I did not find much difference in the drawing on the full format and the crop.

Pros
  • >Unprecedentedly sharp. >Brutal look. >Great lens hood included. > For me, a convenient size for filters is 77 mm. >Accurate and stable autofocus performance for center point, rest and group options. >Comfortable in the hand.
Cons
  • > Still bulky for its 50 mm focal lengths. For outdoor shooting is very difficult. > For such a harsh multi-lens design and a decent price, plus a nine-bladed aperture, it’s completely inexpressive and unremarkable by something outstanding bokeh, for which such fast lenses are usually bought.
