I needed a vise (No, not this vise. I've had enough of those already). And I categorically refused to put up my Chinese-made workbench (don't get me started). Before reading any further, please understand that this vise is actually made in the USA. If you don't care, don't read any further. I was a little confused about the origin of my vise when I received it. If you look closely at the photo, the side of the vise says "USA". However, "USA" does not appear on what I received. However, it is marked "Holland, Michigan". It's sad (and not uncommon) that some companies intentionally mislead consumers by stamping or labeling their products with the location of their headquarters in America. The product appears to be made in the USA. But if you do a little research, you'll find that in many cases the product itself was actually made in China (or somewhere else abroad). I had to be 100% sure that the vise I received was made in America. I called Jost and was actually able to speak to the man. The guy I spoke to (very nice and helpful btw) told me that the vise I received was definitely made in Holland, Michigan. He further told me that Yost had changed the inscription on the vise from vertical to horizontal. In fact, on the vise I received, the inscription is horizontal on the side. However, in the photo by Revain, the inscription is visible in a vertical position. When the lettering orientation was changed, "USA" was omitted for some reason (maybe lack of space?). OK. I understand know. But still I want Yost to mark "USA" somewhere on the vise. This is especially important to know since Yost has some of their cheaper vises made in China. Dear Yost! Please make the origin of your products very, very clear. Alright, enough of all that. What about the vise itself? What's good: 1. It's quite heavy and seems well made (I like it).2. Mine arrived in good condition (no damage or chipped paint).3. The jaws align correctly.4. The movement is smooth.5. It has two (2) locking levers to prevent it from rotating (release the levers when ready to rotate)6. Replacement jaws and other parts are available if needed.7. Manufactured in the United States of America. Cons: none yet. If I take care of him, I'm sure he will outlive me. And no, I will not list the price of this vise as a minus. American products are more expensive. And I appreciate the opportunity to buy a well made vise made in this country. Final Thoughts: If you don't care where something is made, I'm sure I've bored you to death with this question. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's. They offer vises made in China that cost a lot less and I am sure they will get the job done for most people. Another option is to buy a Yost vise made in China. As far as I know some of their vises that used to be American made have now been replaced with Chinese made models. In a few years it might not even be possible to buy a Yost vise made in the USA. I think it all depends on there being enough Americans who care where something is made; and whether they are willing to pay more for quality US-made products. Mine was made in the USA. But there's a chance that's no longer the case.
