I wish I had thought of this! In the past I've used the normal soldering iron and heat shrink wire sleeves to make household and automotive wire repairs and additions. This "all-in-one" method is so much easier and faster. It does take a little patience to get the built-in solder to melt with a heat gun, but once it does, it flows over the wires easily. I was worried about melting the wires, but after the first couple tries, no wires were melted and I was a pro! The connection is tight and permanent.I've used it on exterior wires including Christmas lights that are subject to rain, etc. as well as under the hood of my collector cars and they've held up just as well as the "old school" soldered wiring.Highly recommended!
