They don't go out until they light up.

Not very sensitive. Not sensitive enough to be used for real smoke detectors. Basically it's pointless. In my video you can see me holding it directly over the smoke for a few seconds, but it's not until I start burning the detector itself that it actually ignites. It's too late then.
