Review on πŸ“Ή Panasonic SDR-H60 60GB Hard Drive Camcorder | 50x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom | Discontinued by Manufacturer by Julian Rash

Good value for money but some features are missing

I bought this camcorder for my wife for Christmas 2008 to replace an old cassette camcorder that was 5 years old. This one is much smaller (fits perfectly in an adult's hand) and is good value for money. However, the quality of the stills was a little disappointing and the video could have been clearer. But considering it's half the cost of a comparable Hi-Def set, that's to be expected. I was also surprised that it didn't have a built-in light for low-light shooting. Even our old camcorder had a light and I might not have bought this unit if I had known before ordering. The internal 60GB hard drive works great and even after 9 months of use we were only able to fill 5% of the drive. Finally, I recently installed the bundled software and found that it doesn't work with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Doesn't bother as there are many other better alternatives out there but thought I should mention it to potential buyers. In addition, Panasonic may offer a new version compatible with Windows 7 in the future. Obviously, similar Hi-Def camcorders have come down in price significantly since I bought this one almost a year ago, making them even more attractive. It's a good camcorder at an affordable price, but think about what you're paying for.
