Review on ๐ŸŽจ General Finishes High Performance Water Based Topcoat, Satin Finish - 1 Quart by Marco Huff

General Finishes reappears. Excellent matte finish - easy to spray (Fuji), easy to clean!

This is my third experience with General Finishes. The price always puts me off at first, but after researching and reading enough reviews I finally come to a conclusion. If you don't want to read a long review, the short answer is that it's 3 coats, dries quickly, smoothes out perfectly, and has absolutely beautiful coverage. It has a very soft luster, almost like a well polished wax. Detail: I built the Ana White truss table with 100% pine triple support. I wanted a protective finish but wanted it to be matte to maintain the rustic feel of the table which is why I chose this product. Sanded to 320 before finishing, painted with Minwax Oil "Early American". Allow to dry for 72 hours and then DO NOT sand further before application (as directed by GF's instructions). Using a Fuji Spray Semi-Pro with a 1.3mm air nozzle kit, I then poured the GF through a filter into a plastic cup. , then immediately into the pistol. Thinning was not necessary. The first layer was applied very thinly. Dried within 30 minutes. Sand lightly with 220 grit, blow off, wipe with oven mitts, then apply with a gun as before but apply a little thicker. Repeat the prep process and then apply the third and final coat. For those of you just wanting to follow the checklist, this worked for me: (1) COAT #1, spray on a thin coat (2) Let dry 30 minutes (3) Sand with 220, blow off and tack clean with cloth (4) LAYER #2 Spray on medium/light coat(5) Allow to dry 30 minutes(6) Sand 220, blow off and clean with vacuum cloth(7) LAYER #3 Spray on medium/light coat(8) Allow to dry 30 minutes(9) ) Sand lightly with 600-800 grit, blow off, clean with oven mitt (10) Clean with pledge and buff
