What I like most is the heft and the "grippy" surface on the bottom. It doesn't matter which book or from what location I select, the bookend does not move. That is important for me because I am using them on 18-inch corner shelves. There aren't a lot of books on each shelf but I didn't want to run the risk of them toppling every time I grabbed a single book. I wish they came in another color but ended up spray-painting them silver so it's okay.
