Review on ASUS VG28UQL1A 144HZ Gaming Monitor: Curved 4K Display with Flicker-Free Technology, Anti Glare Screen, and Blue Light Filter by Carl Dominick

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The screen randomly goes black and slowly wakes up regardless of the interface (HDMI or DP).

I wanted a better 4K gaming monitor than my old 60Hz Acer G-Sync display, but this one is too buggy to stomach. Oddly enough, the monitor works great when gaming, but when doing basic productivity tasks in Windows, it turns off momentarily about 2-3 times an hour. This monitor is also very slow to exit power saving and input switching modes. There is something wrong with this display but I have tried an updated firmware (025) and made sure the windows driver was installed to ensure it had every chance of success before sending the display back. Asus offered to "fix" it or send me a refurbished unit after 15 days without a main display, but for almost $900 I can't do that. 2 stars for poor quality and for me to update the monitor's firmware to see if it works as intended.

Pros
  • Compatible with NVIDIA G-SYNC, AMD FreeSync Premium and exclusive Variable Overdrive technology for a smooth, tear-free gaming experience.
Cons
  • Poor color accuracy and brightness compared to other monitors.
